Colaj Privacy & Security

Safe to bring into any classroom

Students stay anonymous, lecture audio is never stored, and student data is never used to train AI models. Here's exactly how it works.

Anonymous participationNo recordingssupport@colaj.ai

01 — How Colaj works

In one paragraph

During a live session, your lecture audio is streamed and turned into a transcript in real time. Colaj uses that transcript to caption the class, surface key topics, suggest questions, and — at the end — generate a study guide. Students take part anonymously from their own devices.

02 — Students are anonymous

No account, no login, no personal information

Students join with a session code. Nothing a student flags, asks, likes, or answers is tied to their name or identity. Instructors see the room in aggregate — counts, topics, clustered answers — never a roster of who did what.

What an instructor sees: totals for the room, never individuals

03 — Your audio

Streamed, transcribed, never saved

Lecture audio is streamed for transcription and is never recorded or saved — not during the session, not after. Nothing is attributed to individual speakers.

04 — Transcripts and student text

What's kept, what's deleted

  • Transcripts are automatically and permanently deleted within about 24 hours of the session.
  • Live-poll answers — which students type in their own words — are used to cluster the room's response, then the raw answers are deleted within 24 hours. Only anonymized example phrases remain on the saved result.
  • Questions, likes, topics, poll results, and the study guide are kept so your session summary stays available — all of it anonymous.

05 — AI and your data

We don't train on you

Colaj uses AI to transcribe audio, surface topics, suggest questions, and cluster poll answers. We do not use your personal or classroom data to train AI models.

When a poll ends, students' typed answers are sent to our AI provider to be grouped into a read of the room. Those answers are sent without any student name or identifier, the grouped result is shown to the instructor only, each student sees only their own answer in their recap, and the raw text is deleted within 24 hours. Students are told this at join time and again on the answer box.

07 — Security

How the system is protected

  • Encryption in transit. All traffic to Colaj runs over HTTPS/TLS.
  • Encryption at rest. Our managed database and file-storage providers encrypt stored data at rest.
  • Access controls. Instructor accounts are protected with securely hashed passwords and rate-limited sign-in. Instructor data — your sessions, your study guides — is gated to the account that owns it. Real-time connections are authenticated by role.
  • Input validation on everything students and instructors send.

08 — Our compliance posture

Stated honestly

We're actively building toward SOC 2 (Security) and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility. We build and maintain these controls in-house and review them regularly.

Institutions under review can request our detailed control summaries and data-flow documentation.

09 — Accessibility

Built to be usable by everyone

Colaj targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA across the student, instructor, and study-guide experiences — keyboard operability, visible focus, labeled controls, live-region announcements, and color that's never the only signal. This work is ongoing; tell us at support@colaj.ai if anything gets in your way.

10 — Your choices & contact

Export or delete, any time

Instructors can request a full export or deletion of their data at any time. Questions about privacy or security? Email support@colaj.ai.

Frequently asked

Asked, answered

Can Colaj record me?

No. Audio is streamed for transcription in real time and is never recorded or saved. No recordings exist to store or retrieve.

Can an instructor see which student said what?

No. All student participation is anonymous. There is no way for instructors, Colaj, or an institution to identify which student flagged confusion, liked a topic, asked a question, or gave a particular poll answer.

Can I access the transcript after class?

No. Transcripts are deleted within about 24 hours. The study guide — summary, topics, questions with answers, and poll results — is the lasting record of the session.

Who can see the study guide?

Anyone with the link. It's delivered as a shareable link, so share it only with the people who should have access.

Do students have to participate?

No. Joining is voluntary, and a student who joins can follow the live captions without ever tapping a button.

Is student data used to train AI models?

No. We do not use personal or classroom data to train AI models.
