How Colaj Works

Colaj is a real-time classroom engagement platform. During a live session, lecture audio is streamed to generate live transcriptions and AI-powered content. Students participate anonymously — no account or login is required.

Data Collection and Use

We collect and process the following information to provide our services:

• Live transcriptions of lecture audio, used to generate key terms, questions, and session summaries
• Student questions submitted during a session
• Comprehension ratings and upvotes on key terms and questions
• Anonymous student identifiers (randomly generated, not linked to any personal information)
• Instructor account information (email and password) for authenticated access

Audio and Transcript Handling

Lecture audio is streamed in real time for transcription and is never stored. Audio data is not saved to our servers or any third-party storage at any point.

Transcript files are retained only as long as needed to generate session summaries and related content. Once processing is complete, transcript files are deleted.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to provide our platform:

• Google Cloud Speech API for real-time transcription
• Anthropic API for AI-powered content generation (key terms, questions, summaries)
• Google Cloud Storage for temporary file handling
• Amazon Web Services (AWS SES) for email delivery

These services process data only as needed to provide their functionality. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

Student Privacy

Students participate in Colaj sessions anonymously. No personal information, account creation, or login is required. Student identifiers are randomly generated and cannot be used to identify an individual.

Data Protection

Your security is our priority:

• All data is encrypted in transit and at rest using industry-standard encryption
• We maintain enterprise-grade security protocols
• We follow best practices for data management and security
• We plan to work towards SOC 2 compliance

Data Training Policy

We do not use your personal or classroom data to train AI models. Your information is used solely to provide our services.

Data Access and Control

Instructors maintain control of their classroom data:

• Access to information is limited to authorized team members
• You can request a complete export of your data at any time
• You can request deletion of your data

Data Retention

We retain your data only as long as necessary to:

• Provide our services to you
• Comply with legal obligations
• Generate session summaries and post-class materials

Audio is never stored. Transcripts are deleted after summary processing. Session summaries and key terms are retained for as long as your account is active.

Updates to This Policy

We will notify you of any material changes to this privacy policy and obtain consent where required by law.
